Two electrocuted in Satkhira

Two people in Satkhira were electrocuted to death in two separate incidents after being touched by an electric wire and being entangled in irrigation pumps in the Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.

The incidents took place in the Patrakhola and Lakshmi Khali areas of the upazila on Thursday night. 

The deceased are Sannyasi Charan Das, 48, son of Keshav Chandra Das of Gopalpur village, and Ujjal Hossain, 27, son of Hazrat Ali Gain of Lakshmi Khali village.

The deceased’s relatives said that Sannyasi Das was in a battery-operated van travelling from Ramzannagar. On the way, he fell from the van after the vehicle touched an electric wire hanging in front of the Patrakhola mosque around 9pm.

Locals rushed him to the Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex when Dr Shakir Hossain pronounced him dead.

Meanwhile, Ujjal Hossain's body was found entangled with irrigation pumps on Friday morning.

Initially, it is speculated that he died on Thursday night while turning on the irrigation pump.

Shyamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and sent to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital’s morgue.

Police visited the spots. legal action will be taken after an investigation, he added.
