  • Claims AL confused people in 2014-2015 with arson attacks

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed deep concern over the loss of lives in the fire incident on Benapole Express train on Friday.

In a statement, the BNP senior joint secretary general said: "The incident on the Benapole Express train is undoubtedly an act of sabotage and cruelty against humanity. I strongly condemn the incident. In 2014 and 2015, when the movement for a non-partisan caretaker government was at its peak, the miscreants backed by the ruling party tried to confuse the public by carrying out arson.”

He added that Friday’s incident is similar to those years. “Today, the same old technique has been used by burning the Benapole Express train. The ruling party has relied on deep conspiracies and sabotage as the leaders and activists of the opposition parties, including the BNP, have supported the people in their movement for democracy.”

The senior opposition leader said the incident was planned and malicious. “All autocrats of the world use terrorism and sabotage to suppress dissent.”

At least four people were burned to death in the fire which was reported at 9:05pm on Friday.

Seven firefighting units brought the blaze under control at 10:20pm.

At least five compartments of the train have been set ablaze by miscreants.
