The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has announced a nationwide hartal on Saturday and Sunday in support of the BNP to protest the upcoming general election.

President of the party, Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad, announced the program through a statement on Thursday.

He called upon the leaders and activists of the party and the countrymen to observe the hartal.

LDP leaders and activists will distribute leaflets across the country on Friday.

Earlier in the day, the opposition BNP announced a 48-hour hartal starting at 6am on Saturday.

BNP Joint Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

The hartal, which will end at 6am on Monday, is also aimed at demanding the release of its leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and drum up support for the party’s non-cooperation movement.

The 12th national election will take place on Sunday.
