Fire service: 289 arson attacks reported in 58 days

  • Some 285 vehicles burned down 
  • 15 structures torched  
  • 180 buses, 45 trucks

Some 289 arson attacks have been reported across Bangladesh in the 58 days of political programs including hartal and blockade enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties as part of their anti-government movement. 

Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters (media cell), confirmed the matter on Sunday.

The arson attacks were reported from October 28 to Sunday. 

Some 285 vehicles and 15 structures were damaged in these fire incidents. 

Among the vehicles, 180 were buses, 45 trucks, 23 covered vans, eight motorcycles and 29 other vehicles.

He also said that miscreants set fire to four vehicles from 6pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday. 

During this period, three buses were set on fire in the capital and one in Comilla. 

Eight units and 40 members of the fire service and civil defense worked to put out these fires.
