A total of 148 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across Bangladesh to maintain law and order as a dawn to dusk countrywide hartal called by the BNP and its like-minded opposition parties has been underway since Tuesday morning.

Shariful Islam, public relations officer at the BGB, shared the information.

Along with the BGB, 422 patrol teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have also been deployed. Of them, 130 teams are patrolling Dhaka.

RAB is ensuring the security of long-distance public transport and goods-carrying transport in different parts of the country.

Intelligence teams are also keeping vigil at bus stands, train stations and other important places to prevent violence and sabotage.

RAB is also conducting online surveillance to prevent false information or rumours from circulating following the allotment of electoral symbols among the candidates of the 12th parliamentary election.
