Update : 18 Dec 2023, 05:31 PM

Brac, the world's largest NGO, and Chartered Life Insurance Company Limited (CLICL) have joined forces in an initiative aimed at mitigating health risks for underprivileged individuals who lack access to healthcare.

This partnership specifically addresses the pressing health challenges faced by a considerable number of expectant mothers in Bangladesh.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Brac Centre on Sunday. This collaborative effort aims to provide comprehensive insurance coverage, addressing the critical healthcare needs of vulnerable populations, especially pregnant women, to foster a healthier and more secure future for them.

Arinjoy Dhar, senior director of Brac Microfinance Program, and SM Ziaul Haque, chief executive officer of CLICL, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

According to the terms of the agreement, Brac Microfinance clients will now have access to continuous life, health, and maternity insurance services through CLICL.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials including Belayet Hossan, program head, Brac Microfinance; Mohammed Amdad Ullah, deputy managing director, CLICL; and Monzur Ahmed, CFO, CLICL.

Recent statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) highlight the alarming health risks confronted by pregnant women in the country, with childbirth complications and the threat of perinatal or postnatal mortality.

The root causes identified include the negligence of the mandatory four health check-ups during pregnancy and delayed hospital visits.
