The mercury has been dropping in various parts of the country as the severity of winter is increasing, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department expecting a further fall in temperatures, resulting in a cold wave.
The country's lowest temperature was 10°C in Tetulia in the 24 hours to 6pm on Sunday.
Temperatures in 10 regions fell below 12°C: 10.4°C in Chuadanga, 10.7°C in Rajshahi, 10.8°C in Dinajpur, 11.2°C in Ishwardi, 11.2°C in Sreemangal, 11.4°C in Rajarhat, 11.5°C in Badalgachi and Nikli, and 12°C in Dimla.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said the BMD’s long-term weather forecast had predicted a cold wave to sweep across Bangladesh at the end of December.
He said the temperature has already started to drop. Temperatures will drop a bit more at night, and a cold wave may sweep across some areas soon, he added.
