The central office of the opposition BNP is still locked even after a huge turnout at the Victory Day procession in Naya Paltan on Saturday.
Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists participated in the procession, which started at 12pm.
The opposition party men took positions at the Fakirapool intersection to Shantinagar holding various banners.
They also chanted anti-government slogans and party slogans.
However, none of the party members tried to open the central office, which has been locked since October 28.
At the end of the procession, some enthusiastic BNP men were seen sitting in front of the closed gate of the office and taking selfies.
Meanwhile, members of the Bangladesh Police were seen standing guard near the BNP’s central office.
A temporary stage was set up on pickup vans for the procession.
Earlier in the day, party leaders and activists, led by its standing committee members, placed wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar.
The Victory Day is a national holiday. It is celebrated on December 16 every year to commemorate the victory of Bangladesh against the Pakistani occupation forces in the Liberation War in 1971.
The Pakistani occupation army surrendered to the joint forces of Bangladesh and India ending the ninth-month blood-stained Liberation War to make Bangladesh an independent state.
Along with the government, different socio-political, educational and cultural institutions and organizations have chalked out a series of programs to celebrate the day.
