Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists have brought out a procession from the capital’s Naya Paltan to celebrate Victory Day.
The procession started from BNP’s central office on Saturday which will end in front of the office after going around Moghbazar.
Earlier, the leaders and activists of BNP and its organizations started gathering in front of the party office from 12pm to participate in the victory rally organized by Dhaka metropolitan north and south BNP.
Earlier in the day, party leaders and activists, led by its standing committee members, placed wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar.
Later, they held different banners from Fakirapool Junction to Shantinagar. At this time, the activists started chanting anti-government slogans along with party slogans.
A temporary stage has been set up in pickup vans for the rally. From that stage, instructions have been given as to who will take a position at which place.
BNP Standing Committee members Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, and BNP Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury addressed the short rally before the rally.
They said that in the “dummy election”, it has already been decided who will be the MP from which seat. It makes no sense to spend crores of taka during elections for this.
They also said they were not given any permission to hold the rally. Still, within an hour Naya Paltan area was full of people.
Meanwhile, the police have been on high alert since morning regarding the BNP rally.
About the position of police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Zone Assistant Commissioner Golam Ruhani said that additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order situation.
