Chhatra League Central President Saddam Hossain has accused BNP-Jamaat of offering money to arsonists for setting fire to vehicles.
“We came to know that BNP-Jamaat would set fire to the buses and trucks. They will give Tk3,000 for setting fire to the buses with 50-60 passengers,” Saddam Hossain said at the Raju sculpture on Dhaka University campus on Monday afternoon.
The event was organised by the Chhatra League to protest the death of Belal Hossain, the helper of a rice-laden government truck, in an arson attack in Khagrachhari during the blockade.
The Chhatra League president said: “Now our lives cost only Tk3,000 offered by BNP-Jamaat. They are the political party that trades our lives in exchange for Tk3,000. It is a matter of shame for us that they are still doing politics in this country. It is a crime against humanity to kill people in exchange for money. The BNP-Jamaat should be brought to justice for these criminal offences and for doing politics against humanity.”
He also demanded the arrest of those who ordered the arson attacks.
Chhatra League General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan said: “The BNP and Jamaat are still engaged in the game of arson in the same manner the Razakar force and the Pakistani army carried out massacres and arson attacks on houses during the Liberation War of 1971.”
He added: “Belal Hossain drove the truck on the road for earnings. He was transporting goods to feed his seven children with his hard-earned money. Was this Belal Hossain's crime? Come, fight with us. Why are you burning innocent people like Belal Hussain alive?
