State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the use of solar energy in Bangladesh's agricultural work is increasing.

The state minister said these things while speaking at a discussion meeting on Scaling Up Solar Irrigation in Bangladesh organized by the Power Division in Dubai on Monday.

“Initiatives have been taken to replace diesel-powered irrigation pumps with solar irrigation pumps. An investment of $1.8 million is required to install 45,000 solar irrigation pumps by 2031,” he said.

The state minister further added: “Bangladesh has diversified its renewable energy portfolio with solar mini-grid, floating solar power, solar water system, solar rooftop installation, solar agro PV, solar irrigation, wind power, hydropower etc. There are 6 million solar home systems. At present, the power generation capacity from renewable energy is 1,200MW. It is on track to exceed 5,000MW by 2030.”

He said: "Delta Plan 2100 is a 100-year strategy that addresses climate change as a central challenge for sustainable development with an emphasis on delta management. Importing renewable energy from neighbouring countries is also addressed in the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan-2023.”

“Developing countries including Bangladesh need to quickly release the $100 billion promised annually by developed countries for the expansion of renewable energy. Moreover, $449.3 million have been invested in 800 projects from the Climate Change Trust Fund to meet the challenges of climate change," he added.
