Update : 04 Dec 2023, 12:07 PM

The cyclonic storm Michaung is currently advancing towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India, with a potential landfall on Tuesday.

Consequently, various regions in Bangladesh, especially the coastal areas, may experience rainfall. A decrease in temperature is also expected.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said the cyclone is not likely to move towards Bangladesh. However, there may be rain in different parts of the country including the coastal areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. This may reduce the temperature, indicating the onset of winter.

Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant warning signal no two.

The cyclone was about 1545km southwest of Chittagong port, 1,510km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,390km southwest of Mongla port and 1,405km southwest of Payra port, according to a special weather bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) at 6am on Monday.

It is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify further, the bulletin adds.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the cyclone centre is about 62kph rising to 88kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
