A total of 161 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across Bangladesh to maintain law and order as a daylong countrywide hartal called by the BNP is underway on Thursday.
Twenty-two of the platoons were deployed in Dhaka and adjoining districts to avert any untoward incident, said sources at the BGB headquarters.
Besides, 442 patrol teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were deployed across the country, including 146 patrol teams in the capital, as there have been arson attacks on vehicles.
Members of the BGB and RAB have been performing their duties to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the country since opposition parties began observing blockades and hartals at the end of last month.
