On average, 11 candidates want Awami League nomination for each constituency as a total of 3,362 aspirant candidates collected ruling party nomination forms for 300 constituencies to contest the 12th national parliamentary election scheduled to be held on January 7.
After ending the selling of nomination forms on Tuesday afternoon, Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua said: “This time, Awami League has earned Tk16.81 crore by selling the nomination papers.”
However, Awami League nomination forms for the 12th national election were sold less than the 11th national election. In 2018, a total of 4,023 nomination forms were sold.
This time, Awami League has increased the price of party nomination paper by Tk20,000. In this situation, 661 less nomination forms were sold compared to the 11th national election as the party form was Tk30,000 in 2018 and now it is sold at Tk50,000.
However, this time the party's income from selling nomination forms is more than before.
This is the first time Awami League also introduced online nomination form collection and submission. A total of 121 aspirants collected forms online, while the rest collected forms from the Awami League's central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
On November 18, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the sale of the party's nomination form.
Apart from ruling party leaders and activists, former civil and military bureaucrats, celebrities, cricketers, social workers, academicians, journalists, and persons of almost every profession showed interest to get Awami League nomination form considering the party has a strong appearance in the political field of Bangladesh.
Many people believed there is a chance of more possibilities of winning with the Awami League ticket as the party has governed the country for the last three terms.
