The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested BNP Chairperson's adviser Habibur Rahman Habib as he failed to appear before the court despite a High Court's order in a contempt of court case.
He was arrested from Dhaka’s Mirpur DOHS area on Tuesday morning, RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) ASP Shihab Karim said.
A video of Habib's speech circulated on YouTube on October 15 containing derogatory remarks on Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman, the attention of the Supreme Court was drawn to the matter.
After a hearing, the High Court summoned Habib on November 6 to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for contempt of court.
According to court records, a copy of the notice to appear was received by Habib's wife. However, neither Habib nor any of his representatives appeared in court that day.
The court on the same day asked Deputy Attorney General Qazi Mainul Hasan to get the information from the relevant law enforcement agency and convey it by Wednesday.
