Update : 20 Nov 2023, 08:33 PM

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Monday said as always, the Bangladeshi delegation will play an effective and strong role in this year's COP28 conference.

“The delegation from Bangladesh would effectively represent the interests of least developed countries and nations severely threatened by climate change during various issue-based discussions at the conference,” he hoped.

The minister said this in a meeting with journalists organized marking the 28th World Climate Change Conference at the ministry.

He said: "Loss and Damage Fund Operationalize" and fix its "Detailed Arrangement" issues to be discussed in the COP28 to continue from November 30 to December 12 this year in Dubai of United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The minister expressed optimism that Bangladesh would actively contribute to initiatives such as doubling adaptation financing, establishing a framework for Global Goals on Adaptation, ensuring that developed countries commit to providing $100 billion annually by 2025 to address climate change in developing nations, and reaching a clear definition of climate finance.

Shahab Uddin said that a position paper has already been prepared with the opinion of prominent climate experts of the country and related ministries and organizations in order to highlight the position of Bangladesh in the COP28 conference.

Like the previous COPs, Bangladesh has set up a pavilion of 152 square meters in the COP28 conference and organised various side events there.
