A total of 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across Bangladesh on Thursday to prevent any untoward situations amid violent activities centring announcement of schedule of 12th parliamentary elections.
Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam of BGB confirmed this information on Thursday morning.
Besides, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has deployed its 460 patrol teams throughout the country.
Of those, 160 teams are working in the capital, according to sources of the headquarters of the elite force.
Violent activities including multiple arson attacks have been reported after the announcement of polls schedule on Wednesday evening.
Opposition parties rejected the schedule. Besides, some opposition parties enforced hartal protesting the announcement.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule for the 12th parliamentary elections, with the polls set to be held on January 7.
