  • Demands probe into failure in World Cup
  • Slams team for leaving out Tamim Iqbal

A Supreme Courte lawyer has sent a legal notice addressed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board demanding the resignation of board chief Nazmul Hassan Papon, CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury and captain Shakib Al Hasan for the men’s cricket team’s bad performance at the 2023 World Cup.

Lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahriar sent the notice to the BCB by registered post on Sunday.

Shahriar said he demanded they quit admitting responsibility for the failure of the team in the World Cup after apologizing to the entire nation.

The notice also calls for the dissolution of the entire coaching staff and selection committee, the formation of a body to investigate the reasons for the failure of the team, organizing domestic leagues on wickets of at least the same quality as international competitions, etc within the next 30 days.

It says Shakib Al Hasan, captain of the team, candidly admitted his team's poor performance, which makes his failure as the leader clear. In addition, he left the team in the middle of the tournament and returned to the country to practice.

The notice also criticizes the fact that the team left out their “best opener” Tamim Iqbal of their World Cup squad.

“BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury cannot avoid responsibility for the failure of the Bangladesh national men's cricket team in the World Cup,” it reiterates.
