Police on Monday arrested five BNP activists for exploding cocktails in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal amid the ongoing blockade enforced by the opposition parties.
They were arrested while trying to create panic among the public by exploding cocktails on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway.
Among the arrestees, the names of Labib Howladar and Rafiq Sardar were confirmed by the police.
Bakerganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Maksudur Rahman said: “Some miscreants gathered at the bridge area on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway near Boalia market around 11pm on Sunday. They exploded cocktails there to create panic in public. When the police arrived, the miscreants tried to escape. Five men were caught on the spot while trying to flee away.”
A case has been lodged under the Explosion Act in Barkerganj police station.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Bakerganj Circle) Farhad Sardar said: “The miscreants tried to detonate the cocktails even when the police car was only 100 yards away.
