Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said the news of several Bangladeshi garment brands being pulled from markets in 12 countries, including the US, is fake news.

“The newspaper that published the news would be held accountable for spreading this false news,” he made this statement during a discussion with reporters at his secretariat office on Sunday.

On the BNP's blockade program, he said: "There is no difference between the BNP's program announcement and the banned organization's program announcement. They are conducting attacks in a manner similar to the Taliban and Israel. They are now organizing programs online."

He pointed out that anyone can hold a political program, saying: "But the BNP is attacking people's lives and property in the name of a blockade. Currently, the BNP-Jamaat is attacking in the same way as the Israeli forces are attacking Gaza.”

The information minister also alleged that the BNP has not uttered a single word about the attack and brutality in Gaza. He said: "BNP is no longer a political party, they have become known as an arsonist party. The government is determined to bring this miscreants group under the law."

He continued: "BNP is not only engaged in criminal activities; they are also spreading rumours. Those who are spreading these rumours abroad will be brought under the law in their respective countries. The government is in contact with the High Commission of Bangladesh in those nations. At the same time, the Bengali community in those countries will also take action against them."

The information minister also mentioned that individuals who have issued statements advocating for the release of recently arrested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir are pro-BNP.
