Awami League and BNP will get permission to hold the mega rallies, chief of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid has said.

"Awami League and BNP have sought permission to hold their mega rallies. I think they will get permission. However, the location is yet to be fixed. They will be informed about the location soon,” he said while talking to journalists at the Nightingale intersection in the capital on Friday afternoon.

He said: “The gathering will be surrounded by countless people. That's why we have deployed multiple teams of DB in various areas of the capital. The police have set up special teams to ensure the security of Dhaka city.”

In response to a question about how the police would handle a Jamaat-e-Islami-organized gathering, Harun-ur-Rashid said: "If political parties are not registered, they won't be permitted to hold rallies.”

Asked if there was any possibility of sabotage, he said they have intensified all sorts of patrolling considering the risks.

“Millions of people will enter Dhaka, in which a third party can cause untoward incidents. Searches are being conducted at various places,” the DB chief added.
