Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday asked Chittagong and Payra ports to lower warning signal no 4 and requested to hoist danger signal no 7 instead.
Additionally, Cox’s Bazar port has been asked to hoist danger signal no 6, said a special bulletin of BMD at 9am.
Cyclonic storm Hamoon has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the Northwest Bay and adjoining West-Central Bay and moved Northeastwards on Tuesday.
It lies about 445km West-Southwest of Chittagong port, 410km West-Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 325km Southwest of Mongla port and 310km Southwest of Payra port.
It is likely to move North-Northeastwards and may cross the Barisal-Chittagong coast near Bhola by Wednesday morning to noon as a cyclonic storm.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 64km of the storm centre is about 90kph rising to 110kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
