Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Bangladesh is facing some problems due to the global economic recession and high inflation, but forex reserves are nothing to be concerned about.

The prime minister was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 75th foundation training course for BCS officers at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB.

“Today people say many things about our reserves. I say reserves are nothing to worry about… as long there is food in our storage. We will cultivate crops and produce our own foods. If necessary, we will reduce our spending and purchases (reduce import) to some extent,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina asked government officials to work to ensure that the benefits of different social safety programs reach their beneficiaries, before calling for diversification of the country’s export basket to reduce dependency on readymade garments.
