Update : 04 Oct 2023, 04:26 PM

Group Captain Abu Saleh Mahmud Mannafi, member (security) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), was removed from his position on Sunday. He has been transferred to the Armed Forces Division.

According to a notice signed by Deputy Secretary Abdullah Arif Muhammad from the public administration ministry, Air Cdr Muhammad Nimuzzaman Khan has been appointed as the new member (security) of the aviation apex body.

Requesting anonymity, a high-ranking official at CAAB informed Dhaka Tribune that Group Captain Abu Saleh Mahmud Mannafi was removed due to his negligence regarding lapses in airport security. Despite providing explanations, the concerned authorities were not satisfied with his statements.

This decision comes after a recent incident where a 12-year-old boy managed to bypass all security checks and board a Kuwait-bound flight at Dhaka Airport, highlighting significant security vulnerabilities. The lax security not only jeopardizes passengers but also tarnishes Bangladesh’s reputation on the international stage.

In response to these concerns, CAAB has formed a five-member investigation committee, and ten individuals have been suspended in connection with the security lapse.
