Police in India’s West Bengal have made an arrest following the recovery of the body of a young Bangladeshi woman from a crop field along the Basirhat border of the state, near Bhomra land port in Satkhira.
The police nabbed the main accused, Nisar Ali Mollah, on Friday.
The body of the woman, assumed to be around 20, was recovered on Tuesday morning. The hands and legs of the woman were tied up with ropes and one side of her face was burnt.According to Indian police, the deceased was a resident of Shyampur near Dhaka, and a gang of human traffickers was behind her murder.
Police following Friday’s arrest said Nisar is the ringleader of the gang.
Superintendent of Police Jobi Thomas K of Basirhat said the young woman used to work in a beauty parlour for a long time in Mumbai, India.
She was trying to go to Bangladesh illegally with some money she earned from there. Primarily, it is believed that she was killed with a plan to steal her money.
The police officer said that the matter was discussed with the Bangladesh high commissioner.
Attempts are being made to contact the family of the deceased woman, he added..
