World Tourism Day observed with focus on green investment

Bangladesh observed World Tourism Day on Wednesday with a call for promoting the sector responsibly through promoting green investment.

With the theme “Tourism and Green Investments”, the authorities emphasized the importance of making tourism more sustainable and environment-friendly. Green investments involve using money and resources to support eco-friendly practices in the tourism industry.

To mark the day, the world’s longest sea beach Cox’s Bazar is hosting a seven-day beach carnival and tourism fair.

The carnival and fair is being organized at Laboni Point, where two hundred stalls have been installed. Those participating in the events include hotels, motels, restaurants, tour operators and various other organizations. 

The festival was opened in the morning where Member of Parliament (MP) from Cox’s Bazar-3 constituency Saimum Sarwar Kamal and Cox’s Bazar-1 MP Zafar Alam were present. The local administration also brought out a colourful procession in the city to mark the day. 

In Rangamati, the Zilla Parishad and district administration organized a discussion and colourful procession in the morning. 

The discussion was addressed by local MP Dipankar Talukder. He also inaugurated the day’s events by releasing balloons and pigeons in the sky. The local administration organized a fair to boost local tourism. The four-day fair will end on September 30. 

In his speech, the MP said that if local tourism can be boosted, it will drive the economic development of the region which will add to revenue collection of the government. 

In Kuakata, the local administration and municipality organized various events including a fair, and concert and brought out a colourful procession to mark the day.

Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahangir Hossain inaugurated the three-day tourism fair and concert by hoisting the national flag in the morning.

At the procession, speakers called on people to promote green tourism through green investment and creating awareness among the local people. 

In Rajshahi, the district administration and Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation jointly brought out a procession from the Collectorate Building premises, which was followed by a discussion at the Parjatan Motel Conference Hall.

Shamim Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi, addressing the discussion as chief guest, highlighted the significance of the day. Motaher Hossain, Parjatan Motel Manager, was in the chair.

Deputy Director of Local Government Ashraful Islam, Additional DCs Sarker Aasim Kumar, Kalyan Chowdhury and Anisul Islam also spoke on the occasion.

In Bogra, the day was observed highlighting the country's various rich tourism products and services.

Member of Parliament from Bogra-6 constituency and General Secretary of Bogra District Awami League Ragebul Ahsan Ripu and Bogra Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Saiful Islam jointly inaugurated the day’s events in the morning.

On the occasion, a colorful procession was brought out from the district administration building, which paraded through important streets of the city.

Following the procession, a discussion was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
