Minister urges dedicated efforts to enhance environment

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin on Tuesday stressed the importance of dedicated efforts by officers to improve the environment. He emphasized the need for environmental protection and increased tree planting using government allocations.

The minister encouraged positive competition among officers to fulfil their responsibilities and provide public services by applying their acquired knowledge and expertise.

These remarks were made during the president's speech at an awards distribution ceremony honouring meritorious officials who participated in training sessions for project managers of the ministry and its subordinate agencies.

The event was held as part of the annual development program progress review meeting at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Tuesday.

The awards were presented to officials involved in forest-related projects, with Gobinda Roy, director of the Sufal Project of the Forest Department, receiving the first prize.

Mohammad Aminul Islam, forest conservator of Bogra Circle, and Toufiqul Islam, divisional forest officer of Sylhet, received the second prize, while Md Abu Nasar Uddin, deputy minister's private secretary, and Dr Maryam Akhter, assistant chief conservator of Forest at the Forest Department, secured the third place.

In the second batch of project managers and officials focused on environmental projects, AKM Rafiqul Islam, deputy director of the Environment Directorate, and Md Hasan Hasibur Rahman received the first prize.

The second place went to Deputy Director Md Ilyas Mahmud, and Israt Sadmin, deputy secretary of the ministry, secured the third place.

Additionally, Md Mahmud Hasan, deputy director of the Environment Directorate, and Assistant Director Zawata Afnan, were also recognized.

The awardees were honoured with books and certificates related to the implementation of development projects.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, and several additional secretaries and senior officials of the ministry.

Before the award ceremony, ministry officials also conducted an awareness campaign against noise pollution, distributing information stickers and encouraging responsible driving practices near the Bangladesh Secretariat.
