BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that its affiliates Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal as well as its metropolitan units will hold youth marches in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The marches are aimed at advocating the party's one-point demand and the restoration of voting rights of the youth, Fakhrul said at a press conference held at the central office of the BNP at Naya Paltan in Dhaka at 11:30am on Friday.
In addition, the BNP is set to unveil a series of simultaneous programs on September 18. The programs are part of the party's movement aimed at ousting the Awami League administration from power.
Fakhrul highlighted the prevailing scenario where a fair election cannot occur under the Awami League government. He noted that even the Jatiya Party in parliament has acknowledged it.
The senior BNP leader also condemned the jailing of Adilur Rahman Khan, the secretary of the human rights organization Odhikar, and ASM Nasiruddin Elan, its director, before demanding their immediate release.
Furthermore, the BNP secretary general mentioned that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital, is not providing any instructions to the party at this time.
On September 13, leaders of the Gonotontro Mancha met Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital. Following the meeting, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the leader of the Gonotontro Mancha alliance, said Khaleda Zia is urging them to continue the movement without falling into the government's election trap.
In response to this statement, the BNP leader said: "I do not know who said what; we have 12 leaders and a standing committee, and decisions are made collectively. The chairperson is unwell and not providing any directives for the party."
