BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the government is conspiring to thwart the party’s movement.
"Many are conspiring. Awami League will attempt to pin the blame on the opposition. Everyone should be cautious," he said while addressing the party leaders and activists during a brief rally following a mass procession at Dhaka’s Naya Paltan.
Calling on the BNP leaders and activists, the senior leader said: “We all must defeat this terrible government with courage and strength. Regardless of the conspiracies, the government should be unseated through a united front.”
At the rally, senior leaders of BNP gave speeches one by one with one common demand, to overthrow the Awami League government. They were waiting eagerly to hear the speech of the secretary general, braving the rain.
Acknowledging their suffering, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the party leaders and activists to brace themselves for more difficult times ahead in the movement to topple the government.
“You endure the rain and face hardships now, but there are more challenges ahead. Through these challenges, we must defeat this government and establish a government for the people,” he asserted.
“This government may resort to unethical actions to retain power, but they cannot suppress the public's voice against them,” he added.
The opposition BNP started its mass processions at around 3:50pm on Saturday, with leaders and activists of the party joining them holding banners.
This is the sixth program in the one-point movement of the opposition party to mount pressure on the government to quit and hold the upcoming election under a non-partisan administration.
