Minority rights leaders have stressed the need for unity to prevent violence by communal evil forces before and after elections.
"No such violence has been prosecuted in the country till date. Thus, persecution of minorities does not stop due to a lack of justice," said Rana Das Gupta, general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad (BHBCOP), Thursday.
"We think that sooner or later we will have to face a deep crisis around the next election," he said at the tri-annual conference of the Rangamati district branch of the BHBCOP.
Ushatan Talukder, one of the presidents of the central committee, opened the conference under the chairmanship of Dipan Kumar Ghosh, while the main speakers were the organizing secretaries of the central committee, Uttam Kumar Chakraborty and Shyamal Palit.
Rana Das Gupta also said: "The superpowers are politicizing how the country's elections will be held after 52 years of independence; we are worried about this."
He added that the rights of the people should be ensured in line with the Constitution.
