A case has been filed on Thursday in connection with the kidnapping of a Dhaka University student, Dipita Chakma, in Sajek area of Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati.
Dipita Chakma’s father, Shitendra Bikash Chakma, filed the case at the Sajek police station, confirmed Rangamati Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Touhid.
“Dipita’s father filed a case against several unidentified individuals,” he added.
Meanwhile, police detained a young man named Dan Priyo Chakma, 26, from the Daripara Bonoadam area in Sajek.
Locals said that he is affiliated with Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS).
However, PCJSS Baghaichari upazila Organizing Secretary Tridip Chakma denied any involvement of his party in the kidnapping.
He also clarified that the arrested Dan Priyo Chakma is not associated with his party.
The abduction of Dipita Chakma, 25, a student of Dhaka University, took place around 1pm on Wednesday.
Dipita was travelling to Sajek with her friends from Khagrachhari. In the afternoon, a group of unidentified armed people intercepted their vehicle in the Shijokchara area and kidnapped her.
