BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain has said her health condition is not good enough to be discharged from hospital.
He said: "She has been kept under continuous monitoring by doctors, and under treatment in the hospital for the past 26 days."
"Doctors feel that it is necessary to keep Khaleda Zia under close observation. That is why she has to stay in the hospital for a few more days. Her physical condition is not yet suitable enough to be discharged from hospital," added the physician.
He further said: "However, how long she will have to stay in the hospital is also uncertain, the medical board can not be sure at the moment."
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment in a cabin at Evercare Hospital for the last 26 days.
On August 9, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital for a health examination. Since then she has been under treatment in the hospital.
A member of her medical board, seeking anonymity, said the improvement in physical condition of Khaleda is very slow, reports UNB.
“She has been suffering from some very critical diseases and no hospital in Bangladesh has the capacity to give her the exact treatment that she needs now,” the medical board member said.
He said it is essential to send Khaleda to any sophisticated medical centre abroad with liver transplant facilities to save her life. “But we are trying our best to ensure her condition doesn’t deteriorate as a complete cure is not possible here.”
Khaleda, a 79-year-old former prime minister, has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.
