Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged the new Members of Parliament (MPs) to devote themselves to the welfare of the citizens of Bangladesh.

She mentioned that a total of 28 MPs of the 11th parliament passed away, with 26 elected from the Awami League.

The premier said this while participating in a general discussion about the condolence proposal of Abdul Quddus and Rebecca Momin, members of the current parliament.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury chaired the session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday afternoon.

She raised a condolence motion in the parliament on the death of two late members of the current parliament, Abdul Quddus of Natore-4 and Rebecca Momin of Netrakona-4.

MPs from both the government and opposition parties participated in the discussion on the condolence motion including Deputy House of the Parliament Matia Chowdhury, and Senior Parliamentarian Tofail Ahmed.

Parliament Leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the late MP Rebecca Momin was a close friend of hers and they shared letters with each other.

The prime minister gratefully recalled Natore's Abdul Quddus and Mymensingh's leader former minister Prof Matiur Rahman.

She said that since Awami League got the responsibility of running the state, the benefits of development have reached the grassroots because her party members of parliament have worked for the people.
