The Universal Pension Scheme is attracting significant interest from the public, with over 10,000 people having already completed their registration within ten days and more than 100,000 currently in the process of registration.
This information was disclosed at the Cabinet meeting on Monday, presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain stated that the premier has instructed the relevant ministries to launch an awareness campaign regarding this initiative, aimed at informing the public about the actual details to counteract misinformation against the scheme.
Cabinet sources revealed that some opposition figures, including BNP leaders, are spreading false information about the universal pension scheme, claiming the ruling party introduced it to collect election funds.
In light of such circumstances, the premier emphasized the need to raise awareness about this scheme among the populace to prevent them from being misled, said the cabinet secretary.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the highly-anticipated Universal Pension Scheme on August 17, intending to include all citizens aged 18 and above.
She introduced the pension schemes — Pragati, Surokkha, Samata and Probashi — through virtually attending the inaugural event from her official Ganabhaban residence.
"The Universal Pension Scheme aims to ensure a better and improved life for everyone by covering all citizens aged above 18," said the premier during her inaugural address.
