The authorities of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) have formed a four-member probe committee to investigate the alleged ragging incident of two female students in a dormitory.
At the same time, the disciplinary management committee of the hall has also been dissolved.
Vice principal of the college Nazimul Haque confirmed the matter on Sunday.
Professor Uttam Kumar Saha of SBMC has been made the head of the committee.The remaining three members are Associate Professor Prabir Kumar Saha, Lecturer Anika Biswas and Zahirul Islam.
They have been asked to submit a report within three working days.
“The committee will start working from Monday,” said the vice principal.
Two female students at SBMC allegedly fell victim to ragging. Moreover, journalists attempting to cover the story were also assaulted. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday.
Meanwhile, the victims of ragging and torture, two female students are passing days with fear and tension in their dormitory, alleged their family members.
A human chain was formed in Barisal city on Sunday protesting the incident.
It is to be noted that the two female students were called in room number 606 of SBMC female student hall in the early hours of Thursday.
Chhatra League leaders forced the victims to stand up, abused them, threatened and searched their mobile phone sets.
Among the two students, one lost conscious in fear of torture and threats.
Later, she was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
SBMC sources said Chhatra League leader Fahmida Roshan Probha had been serving as the secretary and Neelima Hossain Jui as the assistant secretary of the female student hostel management committee for the last five months.
Recently, there were several incidents of torture and ragging in the hostels of SBMC, but no one can raise voice against them, according to students.
