PM Hasina to inaugurate construction of second underground metro rail in September

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction works of Bangladesh’s second underground metro rail (MRT Line-5) on September 16. 

The premier is scheduled to inaugurate the construction works of the MRT Line-5 Northern Route at Jahangirnagar University’s central sports field, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) disclosed this information on Wednesday. 

The MRT Line-5 Northern Route will have a 20km metro rail service connecting Hemayetpur to Vatara, out of which 13.50 kilometres will be underground and 6.50 kilometres elevated.

The route will have 14 stations, (nine underground and five aerial) for passenger boarding and alighting.

The route alignment of MRT Line-5 is Hemayetpur-Baliarpur-Bilamalia-Amin Bazar and Gabtoli.

From there, it will go to Banani through Darus Salam - Mirpur 1- Mirpur 10 - Mirpur 14 and Kachukhet.

Then the line will go to Vatara via Gulshan 2 and Natun Bazar. 

In this section, from Hemayetpur to Amin Bazar and Vatara, the metro rail will be aerial. There will be an underground metro rail from Gabtoli to Natun Bazar section.
