Institute for Global Tobacco Control reveals reality of tobacco regulation

  • Scarcity of smoking areas
  • People exposed to second-hand smoke
Update : 23 Aug 2023, 07:44 PM

Research from the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is unearthing the reality of tobacco regulation implementation in designated smoking areas (DSAs) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

A recent study unveiled an astonishing reality: designated smoking areas are scarce in hospitality venues and trains, leaving people exposed to second-hand smoke, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

Besides, the limited designated smoking areas that do exist fail to meet essential safety specifications and cautionary signage guidelines.

This eye-opening research calls for urgent action to protect the public and address the pervasive issue of smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke in Bangladesh.
