A fire that broke out at the Barisal Plaza shopping mall in Gulistan, Dhaka — located opposite the Bangabazar wholesale clothing market — has been doused.
The blaze originated on the third floor of the shopping complex at 8:40pm on Monday.
Five firefighting units rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and brought it under control within seven minutes, said Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room.
The firefighting units managed to fully put out the flames at around 8:47pm, he said.
No casualties have been reported so far, he added.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
On April 4, a massive fire at the Bangabazar market burned over 5,000 shops to the ground and left thousands of traders destitute.
It brought the question of fire safety at Dhaka's shopping complexes to the fore, with the fire service saying it considers most markets in the capital to be risky.
The same Barisal Plaza caught fire only four days after that devastating fire.
