Update : 17 Aug 2023, 03:03 PM

The arrested person threatened to kill SM Mustafa Zaman, the doctor of convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, from personal resentment to create panic, according to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

The arrestee Tafsirul Islam, 23, is also an active member of Chhatra Shibir.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's legal and media wing, made the information at a press briefing

Tafsirul's father Rafiqul Islam Rafi is also an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami in the area. In 2013-14, several cases were filed against Rafi on charges of sabotage in the area and he also served jail.

Earlier, RAB arrested Tafsirul from Maheshpur in Jhenaidah on Wednesday night

Sayedee’s family also expressed satisfaction with the treatment. Still, RAB is working to arrest all those who are threatening to doctors.

During the primary interrogation, the arrested Tafsirul admitted his crime for spreading false propaganda on social media and threatening to kill doctor Mustafa Zaman through messages on Facebook and mobile phone.

Tafsirul runs two Facebook groups on social media called “Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir Dwariapur, Maheshpur#Tafsirul Islam” and “Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir Dwariapur, Maheshpur@Tafsirul Islam”.

After Sayedee’s death, he found out doctor Mustafa Zaman’s phone number and threatened to kill him on WhatsApp. Later, when the doctor filed the DG, Tafsirul deleted the message from WhatsApp. But screenshots of messages containing death threats were found on his mobile.

Earlier, there was an allegation of threatening to kill Professor SM Mustafa Zaman, a doctor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), who treated Sayedee.

In this incident, he filed a general diary (GD) at Dhanmondi police station in the capital on Tuesday night.

After the death of convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday night, his followers have spread various rumours and criticism on social media centring the death.

They also alleged the negligence of BSMMU doctors behind his death.
