The initial draft of polling stations for the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections will be unveiled at the local level.
On Wednesday, a list of potential polling stations will be published in various locations, including the upazila election offices and union parishad offices.
Following the guidelines outlined in the Election Commission's (EC) polling station establishment and management policy, a committee, led by deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers, compiled a preliminary list of polling stations by conducting on-site visits to all electoral areas alongside relevant stakeholders.
The schedule for this process is as follows: the preliminary list will be released on Wednesday, and objections to the list can be submitted until August 31. The resolution of these objections and claims will take place by September 11, with the finalization of the draft polling station list slated for September 17.
The compiled list is to be finalized and submitted to the EC Secretariat by September 24 through the regional election officer from the field level.
Responding to inquiries on Tuesday, Md Munir Hossain Khan, the senior district election officer for Dhaka, stated that all necessary preparations for the draft's release have been completed through thorough visits to the polling stations by the appointed committee.
He further said: "The list will be accessible to everyone at local level offices across Dhaka district, as well as nationwide, starting Wednesday. If anyone has any claims or objections within the specified timeframe, they are encouraged to submit an application regarding their concerns."
Md Munir also noted that compared to the 11th parliamentary election, there will be an increase in the number of voters in the upcoming twelfth parliamentary election. The effort has been made to retain the majority of the previous polling stations, with the addition of some new centres as well.
