Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said the government is ready to tackle the dengue situation even if it deteriorates.
The death toll from dengue is increasing considering the upsurge in cases. The need for saline is also increasing. On average, 40,000 bags of saline are required every day. Hospitals are struggling, but they are providing all the needed treatment.” he said.
He made the comments while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
Cervical cancer vaccination
The health minister said women will be offered a human papilloma vaccine or HPV to prevent cervical cancer.
The vaccination drive will begin in September. “Girls between the ages of 10 and 14 will be vaccinated. So far, 2.3 million doses have arrived. More will come in November, the minister said.
Doctor's allowance
The minister said the allowance for intern doctors has been increased from Tk15,000 to Tk20,000.
The allowance for postgraduate doctors has been increased from Tk20,000 to Tk25,000.
“The process will cost around Tk64 crore. A proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry for approval,” he added.
