There has been a lot of enthusiasm and a festive mood among the people of the Rangpur division for the last couple of days, centring the arrival of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow, after over four years and a half.
The district unit of the Awami League, in association with central leaders, has made all preparations to hold a successful mass rally of hundreds of thousands of people at the Rangpur Zilla School ground.
The premier is expected to inaugurate 27 development schemes and lay foundation stones of five others including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre. The projects worth around TK1,240 crore.
The organizers hope that the crowd across the field and the entire city of Rangpur will break all records to welcome Sheikh Hasina, the bride of Rangpur.
At a press conference on Monday, AL Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak briefed reporters about the rally preparations at the RDRS auditorium, where the central leaders sat with all the leaders of the district and upazila units of Rangpur division.
He said the people of Rangpur from all walks of life are waiting for Bangabandhu's daughter, Sheikh Hasina.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, organizing secretaries SM Kamal and Sujit Roy Nandi, District AL Convener Sadayet Hossain Bakul and Metropolitan Joint Convener Abul Kashem and other leaders were also present.
Sujit Roy earlier said that there is no sector where there has been no development in the division, including Rangpur district, in the last 14 years.
