Despite the arrest of six leaders, including the district BNP general secretary, causing concern among party members, a significant number of activists, estimated at 10,000, have left for Dhaka led by district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha.
Bogra district BNP Organizing Secretary Shahid-un-Nabi Salam made this claim on Wednesday night.
He revealed that during the Bogra march on July 18, around 200 of their leaders and activists were injured in a police attack. Subsequently, the police filed three cases against district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha, General Secretary Ali Asgar Talukdar Hena, and 211 others. Additionally, a local bus driver filed a separate case, and numerous unidentified activists were accused in all four cases.
Shahid-un-Nabi Salam further informed that following the filing of these cases, district General Secretary Ali Asgar Talukder Hena, former convener of the district Swechasebak Dal ABM Majedur Rahman Jewel, and six other leaders were arrested.
As the police conducted raids on the homes of their activists in recent days, around 500 leaders went to Dhaka to evade arrest. Subsequently, till Wednesday evening, an additional 9,500 leaders, activists, and supporters from 12 upazilas of the district travelled to Dhaka by train, bus, and private cars to join the grand gathering.
Many leaders and activists also reached Dhaka by boat from Sariakandi via Jamalganj. In total, approximately 10,000 leaders and activists from the district are currently in Dhaka. Following the mass meeting, they are expected to return to their district, Shahid-un-Nabi Salam added.
