Narayanganj fire truck accident: Death toll rises to 3

Several firefighters were injured as well

The death toll from the accident that occurred on Monday morning in Fatullah, Narayanganj, when a unit of Fire Service and Civil Defence was en route to fight a garment factory blaze, has risen to three.

The driver, Jahangir Hossain, 50, of the fire service vehicle lost control after suffering a stroke and collided with a bus, and a rickshaw on Monday morning and died on the spot. 

The bus, which was struck by the fire engine, also crashed into another vehicle, leaving two others dead. 

The two other deceased are a pedestrian, Shahabuddin Sabu, 45 and a battery-run rickshaw driver, Sirajul Islam, 50. Among them, Shahabuddin died on the spot.

Meanwhile, the injured Sirajul was first rushed to Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital and then to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was declared brought dead around 2pm, said the DMCH Police Outpost In-charge Bachhu Mia.

At this time, several firefighters were injured as well.

Meanwhile, 35 people were injured in the fire that broke out at Fakir Apparels Ltd in Fatullah around 10:30am. 

Five firefighting units extinguished the blaze by 11:30am, Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense of Senior Station Officer Hamidur Rahman.

Of the injured, 10 people have been sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital in critical condition. The rest are under treatment at Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital.

Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital resident officer SK Farhad said at first 35 people were admitted with burn injuries. 

Since the condition of 10 people is critical, they have been sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
