Keeping the retail tariff of natural gas for consumers, the government has reset the margins and charges of the gas value of different upstream and downstream companies.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division brought this change in the margins through different office orders, which will come into effect from the billing month of July.
It said the new orders came as a follow-up to a new retail tariff announced on January 18, which became effective in February. As a result, officials of the Energy Division said, there will be no effect on the consumers about the reset margins.
Per the orders, issued on Wednesday, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) will get Tk1 per cubic meter (M3) while Bangladesh Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) will get Tk4 per M3 and Sylhet Gas Field will get Tk1 per M3.
As a principal body, Petrobangla will get Tk0.0683 per M3 as operational charge while Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL) will get Tk0.1043 per M3, as a transmission company the Gas Transmission Company (GTCL) will get Tk1.02 per M3.
Margins of downstream entities—mainly the six gas distribution companies—were also reset by the Energy Division.
The six gas distribution companies are Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (Titas Gas), Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL), Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Ltd (JGTDSL), Paschimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL), Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) and Sundarban Gas Company Limited (SGCL).
According to the new orders, the companies will send the margins of the upstream entities including Petrobangla directly to them keeping margins of the Gas Development Fund, BERC Research Fund and Energy Security Fund (ESF) unchanged.
