The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed all public and private educational institutions in flood-affected areas across Bangladesh to remain open round the clock so people can use them as shelters during floods.
The directive was issued in advance as several areas of Bangladesh have been hit by floods.
The directive was published on Thursday.
All regional directors, college principals, district education officers, headmasters, upazila secondary education officers are asked to take necessary measures.
The instructions include:
1) The educational institutions in flood-affected areas should be kept open round the clock and arrangements should be made to shelter flood victims.
2) The situation should be dealt with in coordination with the concerned deputy commissioner and upazila nirbahi officer.
3) Arrangements should be made to open a control room in each district and upazila for continuous monitoring of the situation. A situation report should be sent to the director (Monitoring and Evaluation) of the directorate.
4) Heads of educational institutions must take necessary measures to keep the furniture and computers of the institutions safe.
On Thursday, the low-lying areas of Kurigram have been affected by flood as the water level of the major rivers increased.
Besides, water has started entering the houses.
