Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has urged his party people to join BNP's anti-govt movement to press home various demands including ensuring a free and fair poll and BNP chairperson Khaelda Zia's release.
Nur announced his allegiance with BNP's one-phase program on Wednesday afternoon in a press conference.
His party will join BNP's march program on July 18 and 19, the former Ducsu VP confirmed.
Nur said: "Today we are announcing the program of this movement to demand impartial elections and the resignation of the government. Everyone should be involved in the movement announced for the release of those who took away the voting rights of the people of the country and for free elections and the release of all the royal prisoners including Begum Khaleda Zia. Everyone should play a role for the political and economic liberation of the people.”
He said that there will be a movement like a strike, not a blockade.
“The entire country including the capital Dhaka will be immobilized and the government will be forced to resign,” he added.
"Today, the government tried to obstruct the movement of BNP leaders in Kanchpur, Aminbazar, Tongi. Law enforcement forces are checking people's Facebook account to see which party they follow. It is necessary to know whether these people are really administration people or government party people,” he added.
At that time, Rashed Khan, general secretary of the party, and members of the higher council of the organization were present.
