Chittagong metropolitan Awami League general secretary and former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said that a candidate like Hero Alom for Gulshan-Banani (Dhaka-17 constituency) was shameful.

He said this at an exchange meeting of metropolitan Awami League with journalists organized at Bangabandhu Hall of Chittagong Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Nasir said: “BNP is helping from behind the rise of so-called leaders like Hero Alom or Nur (Nurul Haque Nur). They don't want the country to prosper. They are conducting politics in a different way.”

“Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League Conference will be held on the specified date as per the instructions of the centre. Meanwhile, Chittagong-10 by-election is scheduled for July 30. Party nominated candidate metropolitan Jubo League former convenor and present metropolitan Awami League leader Mohiuddin Bachchu, who is conducting the pre-election activities, is part of our organizational ongoing activities,” he added.

YouTuber Ashraful Hossen Alom alias Hero Alom will take part in the upcoming Dhaka 17 by-polls as an independent candidate with the “Ektara” symbol.

Last year, Alom collected nomination papers for Bogra-6 (Sadar) and Bogra-4 but he was defeated in both constituencies by a narrow margin.

Alom only attended a village school until class 7. Earlier in his life, he used to sell Chanachur at a station. Later, he started selling CDs and became involved in the satellite TV connection business, as well as the making of music videos.
