The High Court on Tuesday ordered the ban on gambling advertisements published on various websites.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has been asked to take swift action in this regard.
At the same time, the court has asked Bangladesh Bank to issue instructions on the use of mobile banking including Bkash, Cash, Rocket, Mcash so that gambling money cannot be retrieved from there.
The High Court bench consisting of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury gave these orders after hearing the application in this regard.
Earlier, the High Court had issued a ruling seeking to know why the failure to stop gambling advertisements from TV channels and all online platforms should not be declared illegal after the preliminary hearing of the writ in this regard.
The rule was issued on December 18, 2022 which is still pending. The writ was filed by Supreme Court lawyers Miftaul Al and Sumit Kumar Sarkar.
On December 11, 2022, a legal notice was sent by Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahriar and Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Ismatullah Laki Talukdar to stop advertising of all types of gambling sites on a private TV channel.
