A motorcyclist's ankle has been severed in a road crash in Dhaka's Dhamrai on Tuesday.
The motorcyclist Kausar Hossain, 18, is being treated at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka.
The incident took place during a head-on collision between the motorcycle and a bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at around 12:30pm.
Police seized the bus, but the identity of the driver and owner of the vehicle could not be known yet.
Injured Kausar Hossain said: “I was going to Nayarhat for personal work. While crossing Dhamrai, a bus collided with my motorcycle while it was trying to overtake another bus.”
Dhamrai Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Noor Riffat Ara said that the injured young man was brought to the hospital and received first aid. “The lower part of his ankle has been severed. He was sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka for better treatment.”
Meanwhile, Golora Highway police station seized the bus after receiving a call on the national emergency hotline 999.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam said after receiving the information, the passenger bus “Rabeya Paribahan” was seized.
Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Highway police station, said that the injured's family was contacted and further legal action will be taken if they file a complaint.
